University President Discusses the New Budget Project at the House of Representatives

           President of Damietta University Discusses the University’s Budget Proposal for the Fiscal Year 2026/2027 at the House of Representatives

Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of Damietta University, participated today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in a meeting of the Education and Scientific Research Committee at the House of Representatives to discuss the university’s new budget proposal for the fiscal year 2026/2027. The meeting was chaired by Professor Ashraf El-Sheehy, Chairman of the Education and Scientific Research Committee at the House of Representatives and former Minister of Higher Education, within the framework of following up on university development plans and supporting their financial and developmental needs.

The meeting was attended by Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hamid Shehab, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research and Acting Secretary-General of the University; Ms. Sara Shen Shen, General Director of Budget and Accounts; and Mr. Mohamed El-Abbasy, Director of the Internal Audit and Governance Department.

During the meeting, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally reviewed the university’s new budget proposal, highlighting its major financial and administrative items, as well as the plans included to support the educational and research process and develop infrastructure and services provided to students, in line with the state’s strategy for developing higher education and scientific research.

The session witnessed extensive discussions between committee members and university representatives regarding several items related to the proposed budget and spending mechanisms. Various inquiries concerning the university’s financial needs and spending priorities were addressed within a framework of transparency and financial discipline.

The University President also discussed several vital projects currently being implemented by the university, including the Student University Hospital project and the Laboratories Complex project, due to their importance in supporting the educational and research system and the medical services provided to students and the community.

The meeting also addressed the challenges faced by the university during the last quarter of the current fiscal year’s budget, especially those related to expenditures from the second chapter of the budget. Key obstacles were reviewed and mechanisms to overcome them were discussed to ensure the regular functioning of work and the provision of the university’s essential needs.

The University President affirmed Damietta University’s commitment to the optimal use of available resources and to implementing development and expansion plans that contribute to improving the level of educational and research services, while supporting the university’s role in serving the community and achieving sustainable development goals.
