University President Attends Joint Councils Meeting of National and Private Universities

The Minister of Higher Education has announced the minimum admission requirements for colleges at private and national universities for the 2025/2026 academic year, covering 66 universities nationwide.

On Thursday, August 7, 2025, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of Damietta University and Damietta National University, participated in the joint meeting of the Councils of National and Private Universities, chaired by Professor Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, at the German University in Cairo. Also present were Professor Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat and Professor Dr. Maher Mesbah, Secretaries of the Councils, along with council members.

Dr. Ashour stressed the importance of guiding students during the application process to familiarize them with the expansion and diversification of Egypt’s higher education system, including the introduction of new academic programs. This aligns with the state’s strategy to increase access to higher education across all sectors—public, private, national, technological, and international branch universities—while ensuring the quality of educational services and aligning graduate skills with labor market needs, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Professor Dr. Adel Abd Al Ghaffar, the Ministry’s Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson, stated that students with Egyptian, Al-Azhar, or equivalent Arab and foreign high school certificates can apply directly through the websites of 34 private and 32 national universities.

The meeting concluded with approval of the minimum admission requirements for students holding high school or equivalent certificates, including:

• Nile Schools students: minimum percentages are the same as general high school requirements.

• STEM Schools students: totals will be equated using the STEM coefficient (1.25 × student’s total ÷ 700) before applying minimum percentages.
