In a dazzling national evening, Damietta University hosts the governorate's National Day celebration for the first time. On the anniversary of the Damietta people's victory over the Crusaders, the university opens its doors to celebrate one of the governorate's most important days.

In a first-of-its-kind event, Damietta University hosted the official celebration of Damietta National Day on Wednesday, May 8, 2025, in the Farouk Shousha Grand Conference Hall on campus. The celebrations were held amidst a joyful, festive atmosphere and broad participation from executive, academic, religious, and popular leaders, expressing the pride of the governorate's people in their rich national history.
The celebration was attended by Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of Damietta University, Professor Dr. Ayman Al-Shehabi, Governor of Damietta, Eng. Shaimaa Al-Sedeek, Deputy Governor, Brigadier General Staff Mohamed Khalifa, Military Advisor to the Governorate, Major General Mohamed Hammam, Secretary General of the Governorate, and Major General Abd Allah Ashour, Assistant Secretary General. Eng. Osama Hafeela, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of New Damietta City, Professor Dr. Osama Al-Abd, Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdo Amasha, Vice President of Damietta University for Education and Student Affairs, deans of faculties, a number of executive leaders, members of the House of Representatives and Senate, Undersecretaries of the Ministry of Education, and representatives of the Endowments Directorate and the Church. Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie, President of the University, delivered a speech in which he thanked the Governor of Damietta for choosing Damietta University to host this national celebration, which reflects the Governor’s belief in the importance of the university’s role in working side by side to achieve development. He also stressed the university’s keenness to participate in the development process to serve Damietta and its people. In his speech, Professor Dr. Ayman Al-Shehaby, Governor of Damietta, extended his sincere congratulations to the people of the governorate on the occasion of the celebration of its National Day, commemorating the victories and heroism of our ancestors in confronting the armies of invaders in 1250 AD, from which we draw inspiration for the spirit of sacrifice and sincere patriotism, in order to defend the soil of our dear homeland, which was and still is one of the most important personal traits of the people of Egypt throughout the ages. Dr. Ayman Al-Shehaby pointed out that the governorate has witnessed great strides in various sectors, making it a locomotive for development. He stressed that we still have more achievements ahead of us, which will be realized thanks to these sincere and honest efforts and determination, to complete the path of development and construction, which Egypt is witnessing under the wise leadership of President Abd Al Fattah El-Sisi. Coinciding with the governorate's National Day, the Governor of Damietta announced the launch of the "Damietta Talents" initiative. The initiative will cover several fields, including music and singing, literature and culture, drawing, elocution, technology, sports, science, recitation, religious chanting, industry, and handicrafts. The initiative aims to implement the governorate's vision of discovering, supporting, and nurturing talent, giving them the opportunity to flourish.
