Damietta University President Attends a Community Awareness Campaign on Rationalizing Water Consumption

      Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of Damietta University, witnessed today, Monday, December 15, 2025, the activities of a community awareness convoy on rationalizing the consumption of water and energy. The convoy was organized by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Science, at Taiba Distinguished Language School in New Damietta City, in cooperation with the Damietta Directorate of Education – the Department of Gifted Students and Smart Learning. This comes within the framework of the university’s community role and its commitment to enhancing environmental awareness among school students.

The convoy activities were attended by Professor Dr. El-Metwally Mostafa Selim, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Dr. Mohamed Abu Dabara, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Dr. Omnia El-Batraoui, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science for Community Service and Environmental Development; in addition to a number of faculty members from the Faculty of Science.

The University President was received by Mr. Yasser Emara, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education in Damietta; Ms. Amani Taraf, Director of the Department of Gifted Students and Smart Learning; and Ms. Rania Shoueika, Principal of Taiba Distinguished Language School. They praised the importance of such convoys in building early environmental awareness among students and their role in instilling positive behaviors related to preserving natural resources.

The convoy activities included a number of awareness lectures, among them a lecture entitled “The Importance of Water Resources and Ways to Preserve Them,” delivered by Professor Dr. Mamdouh Serag, and another entitled “The Impact of Rationalizing Energy Consumption on the Environment,” delivered by Professor Dr. Doaa El-Imam. Interactive competitions were also organized among the school students, contributing to reinforcing the concepts of rational consumption in a simple and engaging manner.

The activities also featured artistic and creative performances presented by the students, including the show “Land of the East,” the sketch “A Drop of Water,” the performance “Qatoura Al-Maa,” in addition to the “Recess Bell” segment. These performances reflected the students’ awareness of issues related to rationalizing water and energy consumption. The convoy also included a scientific research exhibition showcasing student projects and ideas related to preserving natural resources, as well as the school choir, which presented purposeful songs supporting the awareness messages of the convoy.

During the activities, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of Damietta University, affirmed the university’s keenness to strengthen partnerships with pre-university educational institutions and to spread the culture of environmental sustainability. He praised the active role played by the Faculty of Science and the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector in implementing purposeful community initiatives that contribute to serving society and building generations aware of environmental and sustainable development issues.

The activities concluded with gifted students attending an awareness lecture delivered by professors from the Faculty of Science, focusing on developing environmental awareness and linking scientific concepts to daily life.
