       Higher Education: Applications Open for Scientific Cooperation Programs between Egypt and Japan in Research and Innovation Fields

The Science, Technology, and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF), in collaboration with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), has announced the opening of applications for joint scientific cooperation programs between Egypt and Japan. This initiative comes as part of efforts to support international scientific relations and enhance the capabilities of Egyptian researchers.

prof./ Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the importance of these programs in strengthening research collaboration between Egypt and Japan, highlighting that supporting Egyptian researchers at the international level is a fundamental pillar of the Ministry’s strategy to build a knowledge-based society and reinforce the role of scientific research in achieving sustainable development goals.

prof./ Waleed Shata, CEO of the STDF, noted that cooperation programs with the Japanese side are among the most prestigious and important international research partnerships. He affirmed the authority’s commitment to providing the necessary funding and technical support to Egyptian researchers to ensure effective participation in the proposed projects, maximizing scientific and practical benefits.

The available programs include:

  • Joint Scientific Research Projects (Exchange Visits): Aimed at supporting the exchange of visits between Egyptian and Japanese scientists involved in joint research projects in the fields of water, energy, food/agriculture, health, and information and communication technology (ICT).
    • Duration: Up to 2 years
    • Funding: Up to EGP 1.5 million for the Egyptian side (EGP 750,000 per year)
  • Workshops and Scientific Seminars: Funding is also available to organize or participate in workshops and scientific seminars across all scientific, humanities, and social science disciplines,
  • Duration: Up to one week
  • Funding: Up to EGP 450,000 for the Egyptian side

Application Deadline: September 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM (Cairo local time)
