President of the University Attends the Mock Trial Activities of Law Faculty Students

Prof. Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of Damietta University, attended on Monday, April 27, 2026, the activities of the Mock Trial Competition organized by the Faculty of Law at the “Farouk Shousha” Conference Hall, as part of the faculty’s commitment to preparing and qualifying its students and developing their practical skills.

The event began with the Egyptian national anthem, followed by a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by student Ibrahim Mohsen.

The event was attended by the university’s vice presidents, Prof. Dr. Samir El-Gamal, Dean of the Faculty of Law; Prof. Dr. Mostafa Kamel, former dean of the faculty; the vice deans; MP Abeer Rokha, Member of the House of Representatives; in addition to faculty members and students.

The judging panel of the Mock Trial Competition included Counselor Mohamed Qomra, President of Damietta Primary Court; Prof. Dr. Rasha Ali El-Din, Professor and Head of the Private International Law Department, Faculty of Law, Mansoura University; and Mr. Sami Ballah, a Cassation lawyer.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Maqsoud, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law for Education and Student Affairs, emphasized that organizing such events comes within the framework of the faculty’s commitment to practically qualifying students and linking theoretical study with real-life application.

Prof. Dr. Samir El-Gamal also delivered a speech in which he welcomed the attendees and expressed his appreciation for their presence and continued support for the faculty’s activities. He affirmed that this support reflects the university administration’s interest in developing students’ abilities and enhancing their academic and professional levels.

He pointed out the faculty’s keenness to keep pace with the requirements of fourth-generation universities by developing academic programs and aligning them with the changing needs of the labor market, contributing to preparing graduates capable of dealing with contemporary challenges. He also noted that the Faculty of Law pays special attention to modern issues, particularly artificial intelligence, the risks of social media use, and drug-related cases, in order to enhance students’ legal awareness of these topics.

For his part, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Amasha expressed his appreciation for the distinguished efforts made by the Faculty of Law, stressing its important role in society—especially in light of the increasing number of social media-related cases, which pose legal challenges requiring awareness and clear regulations. He also praised the topic of the mock trial and thanked the “For Egypt” student family for their role in organizing the event.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Shehab emphasized that organizing the Mock Trial Competition reflects the Faculty of Law’s commitment to developing students’ practical skills and refining their abilities in legal pleading and analysis. He noted that such activities contribute to preparing qualified legal professionals capable of keeping pace with rapid developments across various fields of law.

The event also included the screening of a documentary video about the Faculty of Law at Damietta University, in addition to another presentation highlighting mock trial training sessions.

In his address, Prof. Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally welcomed the attendees and the judging panel, stressing that the Egyptian state—amid current challenges—continues to rely on public education and is keen on maintaining its free accessibility. He pointed out that what we are witnessing today is one of the outcomes of this commitment. He urged students to appreciate the state’s support and the provision of a suitable educational environment, affirming that the university operates according to a clear vision and strategy under the wise leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The competition witnessed strong rivalry among four student teams from the Faculty of Law: Law Pioneers, Banner of Justice, Shadow of Justice, and Scale of Justice.

The mock trials addressed several issues closely related to real-life societal challenges, including social media crimes, cybersecurity cases, and drug-related crimes. This contributed to enhancing students’ legal awareness of these modern challenges and refining their skills in handling them.

At the conclusion of the event, the results were announced and winners were honored. The “Banner of Justice” team won first place, followed by “Scale of Justice” in second place, and “Shadow of Justice” in third place.

Several individual awards were also presented: the “Banner of Justice” team won Best Case Topic; “Law Pioneers” won Best Judge; “Shadow of Justice” received Best Defense Lawyer; while “Banner of Justice” also won Best Civil Plaintiff Lawyer and Best Prosecutor.
