Damietta University Council Honors the Winning Team of the First Environmental Forum

The President of the University 29.04.2026 7996

Damietta University Council Honors the Winning Team of the First Environmental Forum for Delta Region Universities.

The Council of Damietta University, chaired by Prof. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, honored—during its 249th session held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026—the team that won second place at the First Environmental Forum for Delta Region Universities. The forum was hosted by Tanta University from February 10 to 11 under the theme: “Integrating Academia with Industry and the Labor Market.”

Damietta University participated under the supervision of Prof. El-Metwally Mostafa Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, with a delegation that included: Prof. Omnia Abdel Salam El-Batraoui, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Moataz El-Nimr, Professor in the Agricultural Systems Engineering Department at the Faculty of Agriculture; Dr. Tamer Zakaria, Lecturer in the Information Technology Department at the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence; and Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Hadi, Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering.

Damietta University achieved a notable accomplishment by securing second place in the Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Software track through a project titled: “Water Desalination via Integrated Humidification-Dehumidification with Hydrogen Production Using a Membrane Electrolyzer and Multi-Use Water Management.” The project was presented by the Hydrowadj team as a graduation project by students of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Mahmoud Mahmoud Abdel Hadi.

The team members were:

Mohamed Massaad Tawfik Ragab.

Mennatallah Medhat Mohamed Zayan.

Marwan Mohamed Abdel Fattah Al-Alami.

Hamza Yasser Ibrahim Al-Bayya.

The project represents an integrated engineering model for producing green hydrogen from seawater by employing thermal desalination technologies based on the Humidification-Dehumidification (HDH) system, integrated with a membrane electrolyzer for high-efficiency hydrogen production. The system also relies on solar energy as a primary power source, ensuring sustainability and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.

The project was further supported by advanced artificial intelligence software to analyze operational data, predict faults, and support diagnostic and preventive maintenance systems, enhancing performance efficiency and extending the system’s operational lifespan.

This model contributes to minimizing carbon emissions, supporting the transition toward a green economy and strengthening environmental sustainability.

This achievement reflects the excellence of Damietta University students and their ability to deliver innovative scientific solutions that serve societal and environmental issues, reaffirming the university’s role in supporting applied scientific research and promoting a culture of innovation.
