Honoring the University President at the Delta Region Universities Alliance Summit

            Professor Dr.  Hamdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of Mansoura University, participated today, Monday, June 16, 2025, in the opening of the Delta Universities Alliance for Sustainability and Development Summit, under the theme: "From Challenge to Takeoff." The summit was organized by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Mansoura University, Faculty of Engineering. The summit was attended by high-level university presidents participating in the alliance. It was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, in the presence of Professor Dr. Reda Hegazy, former Minister of Education and President of Al-Riyada University, along with a group of university presidents: Professor Dr. Abdel Razek Desouky, President of Kafrelsheikh University, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, Professor Dr. Moawad El-Kholy, President of New Mansoura University, Professor Dr. El-Saeed Abdel-Hadi, President of Horus University, Professor Dr. Yehia El-Mashad, President of Delta University, Professor Dr. Abdel-Fattah Sedka, President of Al-Salam University, Professor Dr. Arabi El-Sayed Keshk, President of Delta Technology University, and Professor Dr. Montaser Dowidar, President of Samanoud Technology University, In addition to a number of university vice presidents, deans and vice deans of colleges, experts in the field of sustainable development, representatives of industrial and community bodies, and a group of media professionals and journalists. In a gesture of appreciation, Professor Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, presented an honorary shield to Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of Damietta University, in appreciation of his active participation in supporting sustainability and environmental issues, his efforts in enhancing the university's societal role, and his contribution to regional development projects, within the framework of Egypt's Vision 2030. For his part, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally expressed his gratitude to Mansoura University for this honor, emphasizing that Damietta University places great importance on sustainability and community engagement, and seeks, through its strategic plan, to integrate academic work with environmental and social development. He pointed out that the alliance represents a successful model of cooperation between Egyptian universities in exchanging expertise and enhancing developmental roles, stressing that the environmental and economic challenges facing Egypt require greater coordination and integration between higher education institutions and development partners. The university president emphasized that Damietta University continues to support initiatives and projects that contribute to serving the community and achieving sustainable development within its geographic scope, particularly in Damietta Governorate, which has a distinct economic and industrial nature. In his speech, the President of Mansoura University welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that the summit is an important dialogue platform for exchanging insights and expertise on sustainable development issues. He explained that Mansoura University was honored to chair the alliance during the 2024–2025 academic year, during which several joint initiatives and projects were implemented. The summit witnessed the handover of the presidency of the Delta Universities Alliance to Professor Dr. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, as part of the periodic exchange of presidency between Mansoura and Tanta Universities, promoting academic integration and exchange of expertise among member universities. Following the opening session, a series of specialized dialogue sessions were launched, with the participation of a select group of faculty members, experts, industry partners, and civil society representatives. They discussed several vital topics, including climate change and coastal erosion, biodiversity, architectural sustainability, digital transformation, industrial zones, the circular economy, educational issues, and pollution. This summit is a continuation of the alliance's efforts to coordinate joint action among the region's universities, with the goal of enhancing the efficiency of higher education and activating the societal and environmental role of universities, in support of Egypt's comprehensive development process.
