The President of the University 23.07.2025 3520

Damietta University advances 1,181 places globally in the July 2025 Webometrics rankings. In a new achievement to be added to its academic and research record, Damietta University has made remarkable progress in the Spanish Webometrics World University Rankings for the July 2025 edition, ranking 1,886th out of more than 31,000 universities worldwide. This advances 1,181 places from the January 2025 ranking, when it ranked 3,067th. This progress is a testament to the efforts made by the university administration and all  its staff to support digital transformation, develop the website, increase scientific publishing rates, and enhance research presence internationally. On the continental level, Damietta University ranked 134th in Africa, and   also achieved an advanced local ranking, ranking 30th among the 83 Egyptian universities included in this edition of the ranking, reflecting the university's strong competitiveness among its local and regional peers. The Webometrics ranking is based on three main criteria that assess universities' performance in terms of digital impact, research openness, and academic excellence:

- Impact: This is the most important criterion in terms of weight, accounting for 50% of the overall evaluation. It measures the quality and impact of the university's website content through the number of external links (backlinks) pointing to it from other websites. This data is collected using advanced analytical tools such as SEO Majestic and Ahrefs, as well as the number of referring domains that link to the site, which indicates the level of institutional recognition and the value of the services and content provided.

- Openness: This criterion accounts for 10% of the overall assessment and measures the availability of research and scholarly documents online in various formats (such as PDF, DOC, PPT) through academic search engines, primarily Google Scholar. The number of citations for the university's top 310 researchers is taken into account, excluding the top 20 researchers whose data are considered outliers.

- Excellence: This criterion measures the university's research excellence, based on the number of research papers published among the top 10% of the most cited research papers globally over the past five years, in 27 different disciplines recognized by the Scimago database. This criterion constitutes 40% of the total assessment.

This achievement is the culmination of Damietta University's journey, under the leadership of Professor Hamdan Rabie El-Metwally, in its pursuit of excellence, strengthening its position among Egyptian and regional universities, and continuing to advance its educational and research system to keep pace with international standards. On this occasion, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie, President of the University, extends his thanks to Professor Dr. Mohamad Abd Al Hamid Shehab, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, and sincere congratulations to all those affiliated with the University. He also extends his thanks to the team of the University’s Rankings Unit, headed by Professor Dr. Amany ElDisty, head of the international Rankings and Research Unit for great effort done in this file.
