A New Step Toward Global Presence: University President Attends QS Conference in Seoul to Strengthen International Academic Collaboration

Damietta University Contributes to Shaping the Future of Higher Education at the QS Global Conference in Seoul

As part of Damietta University’s strategy to expand internationally and strengthen its academic and research standing on the global stage, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, participated in the 2025 QS Asia-Pacific Conference, held in Seoul, South Korea, from 4 to 6 November 2025, under the theme “Empowering Generations: Skills and Partnership in Asia and the Pacific.”

This conference is considered one of the most significant and largest international academic gatherings for higher education leaders in the region. It brings together an elite group of university presidents, education policymakers, and representatives of academic and research institutions from across Asia and the Pacific, in addition to global education experts and representatives of international organizations dedicated to the development of education and scientific research.

The conference also witnesses active participation from several Egyptian universities, in line with the directives of H.E. Professor Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the international presence of Egyptian universities and opening up to leading global experiences in education, scientific research, and innovation. This contributes to enhancing Egypt’s academic standing on the international stage.

During the first day of the conference, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie participated in the opening session, which addressed ways to enhance academic partnerships amid rapid global transformations, as well as the role of higher education in building the capacities of future generations and preparing them for the requirements of regional and international labor markets. The specialized sessions also discussed several key themes, including digital transformation in education, innovation in learning methodologies, and strengthening universities’ positions in international rankings.

On the sidelines of the conference, the President of Damietta University held a productive meeting with the Ambassador of India to South Korea. The meeting explored opportunities for academic and scientific cooperation between Egyptian and Indian universities, opening new horizons for student and research exchanges between both sides. It also included discussions on the possibility of signing future memoranda of understanding to enhance collaboration in the fields of technology, applied research, and artificial intelligence.

Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally emphasized that Damietta University’s participation in this international event aligns with its vision to strengthen its strategic presence in global academic forums and showcase its efforts to develop education and scientific research in line with international standards. He highlighted the university’s strong commitment to building bridges of international cooperation and leveraging such events to exchange expertise and expand its network of academic partnerships, thereby supporting its position in global rankings.

He concluded by affirming that participation in the QS Asia-Pacific Conference represents an important step toward solidifying Damietta University’s presence on the international stage and utilizing major global platforms to highlight the university’s achievements and its active contributions to advancing higher education and scientific research in Egypt and the region.
