University President and Damietta Governor Attend” Fulbright ” Symposium

         Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of the University, Professor Ayman El-Shehaby, Governor of Damietta, and Dr. Maggie Nassif, Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, attended the Commission's introductory seminar, which was held today, Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Steigenberger El-Lisan Hotel in Ras El-Barr City. The event was attended by Eng. Shaimaa El-Sedeek, Deputy Governor of Damietta; Professor Amr Hanafi, Advisor to the Governor for Spatial Information Systems and the Governorate's official spokesperson; Professor Magda Nasr, Vice President of Horus University; and a large number of academic leaders, employees of the Governorate's General Diwan, and youth from universities and civil society. The seminar aimed to introduce the educational programs and academic scholarships offered by the Authority, which contribute to supporting the education system and preparing Egyptian youth for the job market, whether through postgraduate scholarships or professional fellowship programs at American universities. The event also included an interactive workshop to train young participants and government sector employees on developing personal and communication skills, writing a personal statement, and an introductory seminar on how to apply to the Authority's various programs. In his address, Professor Dr. Ayman El-Shehaby, Governor of Damietta, expressed his happiness with this constructive cooperation with the Fulbright Commission, stressing that this meeting falls within the context of the governorate's strategy to support human development and capacity building, and to enhance Damietta's position as a city that won the UNESCO Learning Cities Award in 2021, among 10 cities worldwide, and as an active member of the Global Network of Learning Cities. For her part, Dr. Maggie Nassef thanked Damietta Governorate and the Governor for the continued support, noting that the Authority is about to launch a new phase of cooperation to support the governorate's distinguished industrial sectors. She also reviewed the Authority's history, which spans more than 75 years, as one of the world's most important cultural exchange programs. In a speech delivered by Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of the University, he praised the Fulbright Commission's unique programs and international opportunities, which open up broad horizons for Egyptian youth. He emphasized Damietta University's keenness to join the Commission's cooperation paths in the areas of training, qualification, and human resource development, in support of the governorate's vision of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development. During the symposium, a number of Fulbright alumni, including graduates from Damietta University, shared their personal experiences and success stories, explaining the impact the grants have had on developing their academic and professional careers. Ms.  Eman Youssef Antar, one of the participating graduates from Damietta University, expressed her pride in the education and support she received during her studies at the university, stressing that this strong academic background helped her excel during the scholarship period. She also addressed a motivational message to Egyptian youth, urging them to apply to the Authority’s programs and take advantage of its opportunities, who emphasized that her Fulbright experience was a turning point in her life, as it contributed to broadening her intellectual horizons and building an international professional network that supported her personal and professional development.
