Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026

Damietta University has achieved a new academic milestone that reflects its rapid progress in the scientific research ecosystem, announcing an advancement of 100 global positions compared to last year in the second edition of the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) 2026 issued by Times Higher Education, in collaboration with the Schmidt Science Fellows Program.

A total of 911 universities from 94 countries participated in this edition of the ranking, and Damietta University succeeded in securing 11th place locally among 37 Egyptian universities included in the ranking, in addition to achieving the 201–250 global band among the participating institutions.

According to the report issued by Times Higher Education, the methodology of the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) is based on three pillars, each representing a stage in the lifecycle of collaborative research in joint projects:

Inputs (19%) – measuring industrial funding allocated to support interdisciplinary research.

Processes (16%) – assessing the research infrastructure and the level of institutional support for interdisciplinary research.

Outputs (65%) – receiving the highest weight, measuring the quality of interdisciplinary scientific production, citation impact, and academic reputation.

This advancement represents a qualitative leap for Damietta University, as it ascended from the 301–350 global band in the first edition of the ranking to the 201–250 band this year—an improvement of 100 global positions, reflecting clear progress in its research capabilities and its expanding engagement in multidisciplinary scientific collaborations.

For her part, Professor Dr. Amany ElDiasty , head of the International Rankings and Research Unit, affirmed that the university’s advancement in the Times Interdisciplinary Science Rankings represents an achievement that reflects the institution's commitment to developing its academic and research performance in accordance with global standards. She added that achieving the 201–250 global band, after previously being in the 301–350 band last year, is the result of integrated efforts by faculty members and supportive administrative units, as well as the university’s dedication to strengthening interdisciplinary research and building effective international partnerships, which has contributed to enhancing the university’s scientific and research impact.

In a related context, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of Damietta University, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, affirming that the university continues to work within a strategic vision centered on excellence, innovation, and high-quality research, with the aim of enhancing its presence in international rankings and achieving further success in the coming years. He also praised the efforts of researchers and supporting departments, extending his gratitude to Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdelhamid Shehab, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research and to the International Rankings Team, headed by Dr. Amany ElDiasty, for their active role in achieving this progress."
