The President of the University signs a cooperation protocol with AMIDEAST

             Today, Saturday, June 25, 2022, Professor Dr. El-Sayed Mohamad Dadour, President of the University, signed a protocol of cooperation between the university and the American organization AMIDEAST to establish a center to serve and support people of determination at the university during the next two years. The protocol was signed on behalf of AMIDEAST Dr. Quincy Dermody  , Director of the Public University Scholarship Program at AMIDEAST. The signing of the cooperation protocol was witnessed by Professor Dr. Wael Farouk Al-Taibany, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Abd Al Nasser Anis, former Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Dr. Amr Ismail, teacher of psychology at the Faculty of Education. Damietta University was selected among 15 public universities (Damietta, Tanta, Zagazig, Helwan, Suez Canal, Bany Suef, South Valley, Fayoum, Sohag, Damanhour, Suez, Sadat City, Arish, New Valley, Luxor) to establish the center referred to above. These centers will be funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It is worth noting that the AMIDEAST team visited the university in the middle of this month to inspect the proposals for places and halls designated for the establishment of the center. The establishment of a center to serve and support people of determination at the university is a great addition and an important step towards integrating students with disabilities with their peers. The center also works to enhance awareness of the rights of people of determination, support the enrollment of these students in new fields of study, train professors on inclusive teaching methods, ensure the provision of appropriate facilities, develop a plan to renovate buildings so that they are available for all types of disabilities, and provide assistive technology to complete the education process to the fullest. . The center also contributes to the creation of databases to count the numbers of people of determination on the university campus, with a classification of the type of their disability; and setting unified systems, procedures and policies to ensure adequate facilities for all students of the different faculties within the university; And the establishment of a department to follow up on students’ complaints within the center, in addition to communicating and coordinating with other campus units. The sustainable model of Student Service Centers for Students of Determination designed by AMIDEAST is a central unit serving and communicating with the entire university, and the center’s role mainly involves four axes (policy, support and regulations, staff building training, provision of suitable spaces on campus, awareness raising and inclusion activities). The establishment of these centers is part of the government university grants program of the Higher Education Initiative (American - Egyptian), to serve the academic, physical and societal needs of students of determination on campus, and to promote equality among them in accessing higher education within universities. It is worth noting that Damietta University has applied for the program, and was selected through a transparent and fair selection process; Based on standard criteria. As the university has progressed, it has demonstrated its ability and commitment to continuously support the integration of students of determination into the university community.
