President of Damietta University Leads University Delegation to Visit the Church of the Virgin Mary to Extend Greetings on Easter
As part of Damietta University’s commitment to fostering the values of fraternity, love, and strengthening national unity among all Egyptians, a formal delegation from Damietta University, headed by Prof. Dr. Hamdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, paid an official visit today, Tuesday, December 30, 2025, to the Church of the Virgin Mary in Damietta to extend greetings to Coptic Christians on the occasion of Easter.
The visit was attended by Prof. Dr. Ayman Al-Shahabi, Governor of Damietta, Engineer Shaimaa Al-Siddiq, Deputy Governor of Damietta, Major General Khaled Ageez, Head of the Administrative Control Authority Branch in Damietta, the Vice Presidents of Damietta University, Major General Mohamed Hammam, Secretary-General of the Governorate, Brigadier General Mohamed Khalifa, the Military Advisor to the Governorate, Captain Ahmed Habib from the Administrative Control Authority, the Deans of Damietta University faculties, a number of executive and academic leaders, several Members of Parliament, representatives of civil society institutions, as well as students from the “For Egypt Family” at Damietta University.
The delegation was received by Archpriest Sarabamon Mitry, Deputy of the Diocese of Damietta, Archpriest Markos Mahrous, Secretary of the Diocese, along with a number of priests.
During the meeting, the distinguished clergy welcomed the attendees, expressing their deep appreciation for this visit, which reflects the spirit of love and cohesion among the people of one nation. They stressed that religious celebrations are a great opportunity to renew meanings of peace, coexistence, and reinforce citizenship values that characterize the Egyptian people.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally conveyed congratulations on behalf of all members of Damietta University, expressing his happiness in participating in this cherished occasion that embodies the highest meanings of national unity. He affirmed that the cohesion of the Egyptian people in all their diversity is the fundamental pillar in confronting any attempts to undermine the country’s stability, noting that the security and stability Egypt enjoys today are the result of the awareness of its people and the wise vision of its leadership. He prayed that God may continue to bless Egypt with security and peace.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Ayman Al-Shahabi, Governor of Damietta, emphasized that such national gatherings reflect the strength of the Egyptian social fabric and embody the spirit of unity among the Egyptian people. He stressed that the Egyptian state is founded on the principle of full citizenship and that religious occasions are a true opportunity to reaffirm national unity and enhance the values of belonging.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Damietta University delegation expressed their sincere wishes to their Coptic brethren for a blessed and joyful Easter, affirming that such national gatherings embody the unity of all Egyptians and strengthen the values of love and belonging.
