Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally, President of Damietta University, inaugurated on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, a seminar titled “Online Fraud and Scams and the Erosion of Material Values,” organized by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Education. The seminar was held the activities of the college’s Environmental Week.
The seminar was attended by Professor Dr. El-Metwally Mostafa Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdo Ammasha, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hamid Shehab, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Professor Dr. Amani Awad, Dean of the Faculty of Education; and Professor Dr. Mahmoud Gaber El-Galawi, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, along with a number of faculty members and students.
The seminar was delivered by Major General Dr. Sherif Zaki El-Husseini, who discussed the most prominent forms of online fraud and scams, their modern methods, and ways to prevent them in light of rapid technological advancement.
At the beginning of the seminar, attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of the late Professor Dr. Mohamed Hassan El-Morsi, Emeritus Professor at the faculty, in recognition of his academic contributions.
In her speech, Professor Dr. Amani Awad welcomed the attendees and expressed her pleasure in organizing this important seminar as part of the Environmental Week activities. She emphasized the faculty’s commitment to addressing contemporary issues affecting society, particularly the risks of online fraud, due to their direct impact on individuals and institutions. She also highlighted the importance of spreading digital awareness among students and preparing them to use modern technology safely.
Professor Dr. El-Metwally Mostafa Selim affirmed that the activities of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector are witnessing significant diversity and expansion, reflecting the university’s role in serving society and keeping pace with contemporary issues.
In his opening remarks, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie El-Metwally stressed the importance of the seminar’s topic, noting that it comes at a highly critical time amid rapid technological advancement and the growing number of its applications, which necessitates raising awareness of the risks of online fraud and ways to combat it.
For his part, Major General Dr. Sherif Zaki El-Husseini expressed his appreciation for the warm reception, praising the role of university professors in instilling values and building awareness among youth. He emphasized the importance of combating cyber fraud crimes and reviewed the most common methods used in this field along with ways to prevent them.
The seminar also addressed the concept of fraud and scams in both traditional and electronic forms, highlighting the most common techniques used and how to confront them, in addition to identifying the authorities responsible for handling such cases. It also included visual presentations of real-life cases to raise awareness of their seriousness.
Major General Dr. Sherif Zaki El-Husseini concluded by providing several important tips and guidelines for faculty members and students on how to protect themselves from online fraud and scams. The seminar ended with an open discussion session, where he answered attendees’ questions comprehensively.
