Today, January 17, 2024, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, met with the team preparing the university’s participation file in the Best Environmentally Friendly University Competition for the year 2024, which was launched by the Supreme Council of Universities under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohamad Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the aim of motivating Egyptian universities to transform into environmentally friendly universities and enhancing commitment to environmental sustainability standards as part of the country’s efforts to transition to a green economy and achieve sustainable development. This came in the presence of Professor Dr. Mohamad Shehab, Secretary-General of the University, Professor Dr. Omnia El-Batrawy, Vice Dean of the College of Science for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, the head of the team, and the team members. It is worth noting that the evaluation of universities is carried out according to seven main criteria: the university infrastructure and risk management standard, the energy and climate change standard, the waste management standard, the water management standard, the transportation standard within the university, the educational systems standard, learning and scientific research standard, and the university and community standard. The University President indicated that Damietta University has already witnessed a noticeable development towards going green in line with the sustainable development goals and in accordance with the state’s directions towards improving the environmental system and developing the green economy.
